Creating a source & uploading data
Here we look at the 2 steps required for uploading a database
of mobile numbers.
First you need to create a 'Source' (similar to creating
a folder to put the data in), then we need to upload the numbers
to the source created.
| Step
1 - Example Create Source |
-
Type a new source name here. This
can be anything you choose but something you'll
recognise at a later date, e.g. November Winter
offer
- Press submit to create the source
Note: You can also edit the name or delete sources
from this screen.
|
| Step
2 - Example Upload Data |
-
Select the source you have just
created with the drop-down menu
-
Click the browse button and select
the file contaning your numbers (see FAQ's
below for details on types of file that can be
uploaded)
-
Press submit to upload the database
|
| Example
Data Upload Confirmation/Information |

Once you press submit the system will
upload and check your data and report on any inconsistencies
as per this example:
- Shows the total valid numbers uploaded, in
this case 7
- Shows the 'bad' numbers not uploaded, usually
due to text being in the number or the number
being too short
- Shows duplicate numbers found in the data. Only
1 of which is included, avoiding multiple delivery
to the same phone
|
| FAQ's |
- You can only upload 'raw' data file types. This
means TEXT or CSV files only. You can export to TEXT
or CSV from most popular applications such as Microsoft
Word, Excel or Access. But, our preferred type is
using Notepad which comes as standard with Windows
(found in Start Menu, Program Files & Accessories).
Simply copy & paste the numbers into Notepad
as a single long column, i.e. each number followed
by a carriage return (enter button), then Save As
a .txt file. If you need any help on this please do
call us and we can talk you through the process. Once
mastered it is actually straightforward.
- If you get unexpected results from the data upload
confirmation screen, e.g. you're uploading 10 numbers
and it says 800 bad numbers, it normally means you
have a wrong file type - again call us and we'll talk
you through the process.
