For example did you know that SMS produces engagement rates 6 to 8 times higher than email. (Cellit) When we send campaigns, messages, information, news or offers we want them to heard, we want them to be seen and read by our targeted customers. Frost & Sullivan research shows that 98% of text messages are read, compared to, 29% of tweets, 22% of emails and 22% of Facebook posts. In fact according to Frost & Sullivan a text message will get read on average within the first 5 seconds after being received. With Nokia saying that the average person looks at their phone 150 times per day.

The reason why more texts get read than emails maybe simply down to the amount we receive, Tatango researched that the average person receives 1,216 emails a month compared to 178 texts. Even though the UK sent over 140 million texts in 2011. (Ofcom)

When it comes to receiving deals and offers on their mobiles people are certainly more than warming to the idea. A total of 57% of consumers would be interested in brand’s SMS loyalty programs, with 90% saying that they gained value from it. (Hipcricket)
