Launched in 2008, the site, which sends customers free betting tips via SMS, has gone from strength to strength since adding the service.
From creating a fresh revenue stream to increased customer retention rates, Big Idea Media shared the not-so-hidden secret to their success.
What do you use mobile marketing for?
“We started using SMS two years ago following demand from customers who wanted to access racing tips as early as possible wherever they were during whatever they were doing.
The idea behind it is that we text customers who sign up to our service twice daily with betting and racing tips to increase their average winnings as an upsell or secondary service to social media and email marketing sends.”
“The 160 character limit can be a challenge but the customers just seem to get it.”
What results have you seen since using Text Marketer’s system?
“The nature of horse racing is fast, powerful and demanding which is something the Messagebox SMS platform can cope with – convenient while giving us the edge over competitors.
Bulk SMS has created a completely new stream of revenue for Free Racing Tips that wasn’t available with our e-mail and social media notifications, and of course we couldn’t guarantee our tips would be received by customers and read immediately – now we can.
We see almost 10% of customers each month taking up the SMS service which helps with retention rates and confidence in our service.”
What have been the cost implications?
“There isn’t one. I’d say bulk SMS has provided nothing but value with Text Marketer. Buying in bigger bulks allows us to get the cheapest prices and the highest returns from our SMS tipping service.”
How has bulk SMS compared to other marketing channels you’ve used?
“The simplicity of the Messagebox system meant we didn’t need to train staff on difficult email templates or social media platforms and our processes sped up.
It’s more accessible than e-mail and social media at times, as reading a quick text message can be easier to digest than a stocky e-mail and has proven popular since day one.
“We can use it as a standalone alerting system or to complement existing daily campaigns – that is the versatility the system brings”
