The UK Boxing Day Bargain Hunters

Boxing Day Sales and Marketing Stats

The Christmas crackers have been pulled, the Brussel sprouts have been disposed of, and unwanted gifts popped on eBay, as people get ready for one of the biggest days in the UK retail calendar.
Brits love a bargain, even if they don’t want the item, when they see a sign saying ‘Sale’ and an item reduced they just have to buy it… “Oh, but it was bargain!”
Just like train-spotters or bird watchers, these bargain hunters do their research. They know where to go and which shops to hit and what time to be there and SMS is a great way to grab the attention of the bargain hunter and make sure you are on their hit list.
Like a moth to a flame or a sweet old Granny to that bottle of Baileys on Christmas Day, Boxing Day shoppers are attracted to deals and their favorite type of deals are those that come through SMS, delivered straight to their phone.
In 2014 the UK spent nearly 3 billion on Boxing Day sales, we even took to shopping online on Christmas Day spending more than £630 million online throughout the day – what ever happened to family board games on Christmas Day!!
However even with all these humongous spending figures and stats, actual footfall was down last year as many chose to shop via their sofa and smartphone. If this year’s Black Friday is anything to go by, then Boxing Day could be an even bigger online frenzy this year!
Many of our retail customers sent out Black Friday mobile campaigns, and we have been hearing some huge success stories from them about how well they have gone down – none more so than Daniel Footwear who have said that, 1 in 4 shoppers came through their SMS marketing campaign.
Mainline Menswear received fantastic results from their Boxing Day mobile campaigns. They received a 27% rise in overall traffic, a 45% rise in direct traffic and a very impressive 93% rise in mobile traffic compared to when they didn’t send an SMS campaign!
We have already had some of you line up and schedule send your messages ready for Boxing Day, so well done you – but for those of you who haven’t, then there is no time like the present (little Christmas pun).
Get your messages scheduled now and then sit back with an extra glass of wine and mince pie while we deliver your messages and make sure you have a knockout Boxing Day.
